MQP Preschool

2017-2018 School Year

Welcome and thank you for choosing Mary Queen of Peace Preschool for your child. Together, we will work with you and your child in fostering their spiritual, academic and social growth. We believe that every child is a gift from God and we are fortunate to have you and your family as members of our school family.

Mary Queen of Peace is committed to assisting parents in their role as the primary educators of their children in knowledge and faith. In an atmosphere of encouragement, the school assists each child to achieve his or her full potential and to develop an appropriate sense of self-worth. It is this shared sense of community which aids both parent and child in growing their commitment to the Catholic Church through liturgy, prayer, friendship and service.

Preschool Teaching Staff

Mrs. Anne Goodwille will serve as the preschool director and lead teacher.

Philosophy and Daily Activities

The Mary Queen of Peace Preschool will prepare children for the kindergarten experience through both learning and play. Because young children learn and grow through firsthand experience, students will participate in age-appropriate creative learning activities, music, art, physical education and play with a focus on kindergarten readiness. Under the patient guidance of our experienced teachers, we will help each child develop a positive self-image, be proud of his or her achievements, and accept new challenges with confidence. Our goal is to provide a nurturing, Catholic environment to foster each child’s intellectual, social, and spiritual growth.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd will be an important part of the core curriculum and will take place on Wednesday mornings with the pre-kindergarten lead teacher.  The pre-kindergarten class will attend weekly after the first few weeks of the school year. The 3s class will begin attending during second quarter.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a Montessori based religion program that includes a hands-on space where children hear, ponder and celebrate the word of God. As part of this religious formation, the children gather in an “atrium,” a room which contains simple yet beautiful materials including things such as sculpted apostles around the Last Supper Table and a small altar that helps them learn about the Eucharist.

Calendar and Schedule

The Mary Queen of Peace Preschool will operate on the same calendar and schedule as the rest of the school. The school day begins at 7:50am and ends at 3:00pm. Morning drop off begins at 7:30 and for those attending half days, dismissal is at 11:30.

School Uniforms

The children do wear uniforms. Boys wear the regular school uniform of navy or khaki pants and a white or navy polo shirt. Girls wear a navy jumper, available through Just Me Apparel, with a white polo or blouse. Long and short-sleeved T-shirts with the preschool logo will be available for boys and girls to wear in place of the polo, and a girl’s navy skort is also an option instead of the jumper. Ordering information for jumpers and monogrammed items will be available in the late spring and early summer. Tote bags will be provided by Mary Queen of Peace (instead of backpacks).
