Scholar Bowl

Posted on April 16, 2018 in: General News

On April 11, six teams comprised of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders traveled to Bishop DuBourg High School for their Annual Grade School Scholar Bowl Competition. Students were selected from the Scholar Bowl Explorer elective to attend this fun academic event.

The students were administered an individual written test consisting of math, history, grammar, and pop culture questions. Top scores were called to represent their school in a team against team competition complete with actual buzzers!

This year, MQP really excelled! Both Sixth and Eighth Grade teams qualified to compete in the finals: our Sixth Grade team of Tripp Bergan, Aidan Brawer, Collin Graham, and Brendan Gunn took Second Place, and our Eighth Grade consisting of Mary Armitage, Lucy Brady, Max Sextro, and Connor Buehring won FIRST PLACE! Shown in picture.

Tripp Bergan received First Place recognition for his individual scores in Sixth Grade; Ava Zimmerman received Third Place, and Patrick Mehan received Honorable Mention for Seventh Grade. JP Torack won Second Place recognition for Eighth Grade. CONGRATS!

Other students who attended were Maya Deeba, Mimi LaVigne, and Henry Dowd from 8th grade, Sarah Gilmore, Jack Hulett, Mia Maddock, Kate Virtel, Olivia Cordes, and Seth Bumbera from 7th grade, and representing the 6th grade was Connor Bena, Margo Schoen, Grayson Avery, and Doug Allenbaugh.

MQP students also got to mix with other schools and play board games, make slime, and build domes out of toothpicks and marshmallows. It was a great event, and we look forward to attending again next Spring!
