Operation Sunscreen

Posted on October 28, 2021 in: General News

Each grade at Mary Queen of Peace has a Stewardship theme. The theme for fifth grade is Honoring the Armed Forces, so they are participating in Operation Sunscreen. the  5th grade is also working hard on their stewardship project in service to the military.  We are participating in Operation Sunscreen:

Operation Sunscreen is a non - profit organization that was founded years ago by Karen Irwin, the wife of a retired Missouri Guard General, David Irwin.

Karen started this organization once she became a general’s wife and began to interact with the wives and families of deployed soldiers. She listened to their concerns and needs and found that one of the greatest disappointments was to be away from loved ones during the holidays. She then worked with the Missouri Guard and enlisted their support in sending care packages from the Missouri community so the troops would have a touch of Christmas delivered to them. She asked what was needed overseas and found that simple items like sunscreen, ChapStick, mints, gum, and other small snacks that could be kept in a knapsack is what they craved most.

Our fifth graders are asking for donations of ChapStick with sunscreen, individual packages of Goldfish crackers, mints, gum, and other small snacks that could be kept in a knapsack.

The items will be due by Veterans' Day, Nov. 11. Collection boxes are in both 5th grade classrooms.  Thanks for your donations!
